FBC Baytown

Adult

Ministry with adults at FBC encompasses a wide range of opportunities that include Bible study, prayer, fellowship, recreation, missions, music, and service. Participation is open to all interested persons, and we believe that these groups provide a great way for people to get connected to our church family.

The Adult Bible Study Ministry (Sunday School) meets year-round at 9:30 every Sunday morning. It currently includes groups for people from 18-90+ years of age. Although our structure is generally age-graded, we encourage members and guests to find a group that best suits their needs. All classes use curricula that are based in the Scripture and focus on helping members apply the timeless truths of the Bible to their lives. Some classes are for couples, some co-ed, some are for women, and some are for men.

Discipleship
For FBC discipleship is an intentional “process of being conformed to them image of Christ for the sake of others.”1 The Discipleship Team plans a series of events to encourage this process, including small groups—both topical studies and covenant-based groups, and works with Bible Study Ministry leaders to help them teach the Scripture in ways that reinforces transformational learning.

Single Moms
The women in this great fellowship group are not all mothers, but the informal title “fits” them. Part of the Adult Bible Study Ministry, they gather each Sunday morning at 9:30 for fellowship, prayer, sharing and encouragement, and especially study of God’s Word. Taught by Judi Barrow, the ladies use a curriculum piece called Masterworks, which uses adaptations from the works of popular Christian authors like Beth Moore and Charles Stanley as a launching point for looking into the Bible.

Mo Villarreal, our “GenY” Director coordinates a Bible study session on Sunday mornings at 9:30 for young adults (18-29). The class includes college students and folks getting started in their careers. Members include both singles and couples, and the Sunday gathering is the “launching pad” for a variety of fellowship and shared-ministry events.

Median Adults
The Bible Study Ministry offers several departments and classes for men and women in the 30-59 age group. These individual groups are the focal point for developing a sense of true community—what the Bible calls koinoinia. Again, studying scripture together opens the door to trust and growing relationship between friends to help face the day-to-day challenge of raising children, earning a living, and finding support for the real-life crises that come to every household. As a whole this group of church members provide the bulk of lay leaders for most church ministries.

srSenior Adults
Retirement years are a gift to folks after a lifetime of service to employers in every trade and profession, and church members who have earned this privilege make up a significant part of our church family. The Bible Study Ministry offers classes for men, for women and for couples. A monthly gathering called First Choice provides a time of fellowship, refreshment, and information in a delightful atmosphere. Meeting at 10:30 AM on the fourth Thursday of each month, the group also sponsors regular outings to Astros games, plays, museums, and many other sites of special interest.

Small Groups
The Discipleship Team maintains a year-round schedule of small group opportunities addressing topical studies to help members grow in Christ. Click on Small Group to find a list of the current studies.

Women’s Ministry Director Robin Cunningham works with a team of ladies to provide a variety of fellowship, ministry, and study opportunities throughout the year.

Special Needs
FBC Baytown has sponsored a wonderful ministry to adults with special needs called Friends of God. They gather on Sunday mornings at 9:30 for a Bible lesson, fellowship, and worship. The dedicated leaders who guide this ministry also offer seasonal parties to reinforce the church’s basic belief that all of God’s children are precious in His sight.
